Had a pleasant 2 weeks experience in Sonesta. Place is clean well maintained. Very friendly staff. Specially the doorman whom am unable to remember his name. Always ready to guide and welcome. The restaurants inside are good. The Italian one is to visit again. Did not like the Sushi place. The waiter is not friendly and was not pleasant. The breakfast buffet is very limited and gets boring in few days. Overall beautiful home. Would recommend anyone to visit.
when I first checked in I felt very unwelcome as a foreigner. I could feel the cold stares as I walked into the lobby. The room that I stayed in was okay but it definitely felt that it needed to be updated. The breakfast buffet had very bland food, featuring cold cuts and stale breads. I went to the Italian restaurant and ordered the beef medallion which the menu said it was beef in puff pastry with mushrooms but when it came to my table I was displeased to see a slab of beef and rice. I ended up taking my laundry elsewhere because the laundry service offered in the hotel were absurdly high. The only place I enjoyed was the gym where I ran on the treadmill only because I felt like I was running away from all the unpleasant experiences that had occurred since I had arrived at at the hotel. I would only recommend this hotel for you if you enjoy smelling cigarettes, bland food, and judging stares.
We stayed for 5 nights and it’s was for the most part uncomfortable. The only reason I have given this 2 stars as opposed to 1 star is because of the lovely people working in housekeeping, 1 member of the front desk, and a waiter at La Gondola & the main buffet restaurant. Aside from those kind and helpful individuals a majority of the staff were rude, snobby, and seemingly judgemental. We were given a nicer room because the type of room which we had requested was not available which was one good thing. The services at the hotel were expensive even for Cairo. Laundry service was exceptionally expensive - 2x the price of laundry services around Cairo. Also the instructions for laundry service were wonderful wth the exception of the very important fact that laundry service must be paid in cash at the time of delivery which is bizarre even in Egypt considering many of the hotels we stayed in accepted card at checkout. Because we were unaware of the cash payment requirement for laundry we were unprepared and the individual that dropped off the laundry demanded we pay him in cash. When we didn’t have the total amount in cash at that’s moment he stormed over to the phone and called reception whilst screaming in Arabic and then proceeded to leave angrily. This was by far the most uncomfortable stay and if not for the convenient location and the fact that I had paid a lot already for the room, we would have left.
